Organisatorial context:
Akzo Nobel Functional Chemicals’ sBU Ethylene amines (EA) are constructing a grass root plant in Ningbo, China. The plants will be located at the 50 hectares, newly Akzo Nobel multi-site placed on the Ningbo Chemical Industrial Zone.
The EA plant consists of Ethylene oxide, Ethanolamine and Ethylene amine processes.
Akzo Nobel Functional Chemicals is a world leader in the production of ethylene amines and ethanolamines. Although the chemistry and processes required for the manufacture of these products are complicated, the reason for our success can be expressed in simple terms: know-how and the ability to listen to our customers.
Today we have two productions sites of these products, Sweden and Germany
We serve customers throughout the world with ethylene amines and ethanolamines, which are key building blocks for the manufacture of everything from chelating agents, fungicides, detergents, paints, adhesives, asphalt additives and cutting fluids to cosmetics, tissue paper, soaps, textile and fabric softeners, and pharmaceuticals.
Production is subject to the most stringent quality and environmental controls. We are, of course, certified in accordance with ISO 9001 (Quality Assurance) and ISO 14001 (Environmental Management). In September 2006 we received our Energy Management System Certificate for Sweden
Job purpose:
Conduct activities, both chemical and technical, for the production processes and support to other departments. Take part in the commissioning and start-up of the plant. Guard performance of the operations and troubleshoot and improving processes and initiate new projects and processes. Report activities and performance
Position in the organization:
Department : Production
Number of Process Engineers : Six (6)
Manager (reporting) : Senior Process Engineer.
Staff : None.
Other Organisatorial relations : During CSU phase process engineer will assist CSU manager.
Products Activities and responsibilities for the group of Process Engineers
CSU Preparation of both commissioning and start-up;
- Collaboration with CSU manager to prepare CSU.
- Compile documentation for CSU (manual, timeline, resources, and responsibilities).
- Train shift teams for CSU.
- Supervise and assist shift teams during CSU concerning both chemical and technical issues.
- Report progress, pitfalls, failures, lessons learned during CSU.
Operations - Propose improvement projects for plant performance; yields, energy consumption, quality, waste, etc.
- Define and execute optimization studies.
- Safeguards technical aspects of process.
- Execution of process calculations.
- Troubleshooting.
- Line responsible for Quality, Health, Safety and Environmental (QHSE)
- Administrate and train shift teams or other departments
- Compile environmental performance
- Assisting during start up of (new) process parts.
- Report activities executed by him/her.
Coordination Ensures that process documentation is up to date – cooperation with Engineering department of Multisite:
- PID’s.
- Process manuals.
- Work descriptions.
- Management system
Improvements Propose and perform optimisations/improvements concerning
- Business objectives.
- Process optimization.
- Bill of Materials.
- Cost reductions.
Projects Takes part in/lead multidisciplinary project teams.
QHSE Ensures that all activities employed are according local and AN QHSE regulations.
Qualifications:
The process engineer should have either a university or a college degree in Chemical/Technical Engineering, Process engineers should preferably have >5 years of relevant working experience in the chemical industry, with at least a few years manufacturing experience.
The process engineer should possess proven working knowledge regarding QHSE issues, project management and cost control. He/She should be team player, self-starter, result oriented, quality committed, and proactive. Furthermore, strong work ethic, good organizational skills, set priorities and use time effectively to accomplish tasks, and basic computer skills. Knowledge regarding both ERP (SAP) and MES (Proficy) systems are advantageous. He/She should be proficient in spreadsheets, databases word processing, presentation programs, and preferably modelling programs like Aspen.
At least one of the process engineers should be a specialist in process safety management. This person should possess proven knowledge regarding process safety, environmental impacts, and mechanical integrity.
